The Ministry has written to the Minister of Education and Science, Youth and Sport of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the Heads of area Departments of Education and Science, Kyiv and Sevastopol City State Administrations, and the Rectors and Directors of Higher Educational establishments with levels I-IV of accreditation, to improve the quality of training for the IT sector ( letter № 1/9-119 placed in the column "Legislation" ).
The Ministry issued the letter by order of Mykola Azarov, Prime Minister of Ukraine, following his meeting of 15 February 2012 on the improvement of the quality of training in information technology. This was held with the Rectors of leading universities and the management of enterprises working in this area, in order to recommend the development and implementation in universities of improvements in the area of vocational training for IT professionals and in-depth programmes of learning English, taking into account the chosen specialism. The instructions also extend the legal training courses for IT professionals by increasing the number of hours for the study of relevant modules with legal direction or content.
It is also proposed that each curriculum incorporates "Informatics and Computer Science" as a separate discipline and "Principles of Marketing" and "Fundamentals of Patents" as optional hourly modules to be set by educational establishments or as relevant modular disciplines with commercial and legal directions.
In addition, it has become necessary to review the contents of standard subjects that are taught during vocational training in a particular field of knowledge to take into account the latest developments in information technology.
The Ministry also recommends that measures be taken to enhance the standards of students' practical training by the involvement of employers to their organization, through the introduction of various forms of internship schemes for students at IT companies and the development and implementation of adaptation programmes for university graduates in the workplace.
