Discussions at the Ministry on the training of IT specialists

February 17, 2012. Yevhen Sulima, First Deputy Minister of Education and Science, Youth and Sport, chaired a meeting of representatives of universities and staff of the Ministry.

The meeting discussed ways of best accomplishing the objectives set by Mykola Azarov, the Prime Minister of Ukraine, in order to improve the quality of training for the IT sector.

"We pay a great deal of attention to our universities, primarily working to achieve specific results that are demanded by the commercial market. And the development of IT specialisms gives us a further opportunity to find that niche that will give impetus to the development of the technological directions of our higher educational establishments", stated the First Deputy Minister.

During the meeting issues and stumbling blocks that prevent the development of Informatics in teaching and vocational training in this area, that need to be removed, were discussed.

As a result of the meeting, Yevhen Sulima defined a number of tasks -preparing proposals for: defining standards for student/staff ratios, taking into consideration the number of full-time posts of teaching staff working on training in IT; changes to legislation governing the taxation of enterprises in the IT sector; changes to the Regulation "Establishment and Operation of Technology Parks and Innovative Complexes of other types" designed to create the right conditions for students’ internships in business enterprises; the recognition by Ukraine of international IT certificates; and amendments to legislation allowing duty-free import into Ukraine of equipment for research and education in the area of IT.
